Media Kit
Happy New Year!
I've been a bit MIA because I wanted to enjoy the break but now that we're back in school, it's time to keep my head in the game. This is a project for a class, but regardless of that, I feel like having a complete package of what you anticipate and have planned for other issues or even for the magazine as a whole. I followed the steps from this link, and here's my media package:
Editorial Calendar ("Yearly overview with concepts and themes by month for each issue")
- For this, I had coincidentally already thought about this and mentioned it in one of my past blog posts. It's an idea of mine to make my magazine's niche its focus on a different country each month. For example, in the issue I'm working on the main focus would be Cuba, so one of my articles will be about Cuban music's history (I specifically focused on salsa for my article) and Cuban artists will be specially featured throughout the issue.
Staff List ("Founder, editor-in-chief, writers, photographers, contributors, etc.)
- The founder, editor-in-chief, main writer and photographer of my magazine would be me, given the magazine is not exactly legit yet so I don't have a team. Preferably the magazine's staff will be flexible, with a concentrated group of people who will permanently write in every issue, but regardless, the magazine will have an open submission rule on its website. The writers will be people who are either Latin or know or love Latin music. It's a niche magazine after all, so it's only logical for its staff to be specific too.
Mechanical Specifications ("Page size, bleed, and trim size; Requirements: file type, embedded color space, resolution, printing method, marks, and proofs")
- Page size: regular (8.5 by 11 inches)
- Page number: around 40-60 pages
- Bleed: none
- Trim size: 8.5 by 11 inches
Reader Demographics (age range, gender, education level, median household income, etc.)
- Age range: mainly teens to late twenties but can be for anyone
- Gender: any
- Education level: any but possibly at least high school
- Median Household Income: anyone is welcome as long as they can afford the magazine
Subscribers (Mailing list, Facebook fans, Twitter followers, Instagram followers, etc.)
- Ideally, if this was going to be a real magazine, I would create a website with its own domain to promote it and also publish more "breaking news" in the Latin music world. I would also make an account on every social media platform to further promote the magazine.
Circulation (Includes Issuu stats, which covers sales, frequency, readership etc.)
- Frequency: Monthly magazine (every month, a new country would be the main feature of the issue)
Distribution (Through email, digital and/or print, stocklists)
- The magazine would start online on its website (as a subscription-based product) and hopefully be printed with the help of a sponsor.
Advertising
- In order to afford the making of the magazine, we would feature ads in every single issue. There are several small and even big shops in my community that would appreciate being featured to incite revenue. Some local bands and events might also want to buy space on the magazine.
Disclaimer:
Most of these I honestly didn't know how to answer because I'm not an expert and even though I tried searching certain things up, nothing helpful or insightful appeared (or maybe I just didn't understand it well).
